FACTS
- Wood comes is hundreds of varieties with each variety offering
something different in terms of aesthetic appearance, end use and performance
- Wood is extremely strong and yet also very light. Softwood is for
example 16 times less dense than steel, yet weight less than 15% of buildings made from
other common construction materials such as brick
- Wood is extremely durable and can outlast many of todays
traditional construction materials
- Certain woods have a very high resistance to heat. Such wood have
inherent high heat insulation properties and hence work very well in places where the wood
would be in conditions of extreme temperatures. E.g. wood saunas.
- The same heat insulation properties also therefore allow wood to be
naturally warm and a much better thermal insulator than concrete or even steel
- Contrary to public perception, wood is readily available natural
raw material. It is fact that more trees are now planted than are actually cut down
