CHARACTERISTICS
There are many factors to consider when deciding upon the best
wood for the job. The 3 key elements affecting the choice of timber would be strength,
appearance and cost. Timber was originally used for its strength rather than its aesthetic
appearance. These days however, timber is more and more in demand for tiling, floors,
walls, ceilings etc. This proves that timber is becoming much more flexible and widely
used for its visual characteristics and not only as an alternative to conventional strong
materials such as stone.
For each and every type of manufactured wood, there are in place,
a set of manufacturing limits. These limits act as benchmarks as to the suitability of
that product in respect to its eventual end use. I.e. there are instances when two pieces
of identical wood originating (from the same forest) have different technical
specifications with regards to strength and appearance. This is one example of where the
manufacturing limits, origin of the wood and also and principle of quality of
manufacture are paramount in your choice for a good source of timber. |
