SIZES AND MEASURES
Since timber is an internationally traded commodity, the size
measurements may be produced in metric or imperial standards depending upon the country of
origin of the timber. For examples, Chinese timber is usually produced in imperial sizes
and then sold on the UK market using the international conversion standard.
With reference to timber sizes and specifications, we of course
take into full consideration the clients requests as well as using our 30 years of
personal timber experience to best advise the client. Sizes and specifications are also
determined by the end use of the timber in question.
There are of course many different variations of timber size and
specification that we can supply to our clients but in most instances, it is the client
who usually determines the wood size, wood classification and the also the wood finishing.
This is then of course also one of the determinants of the price of the timber.
The typical sizes of wood that we sell are as follows:
A - Floor wood
With regard to the length of the timber used for floor wood, we
offer four of our most common sizes. These being timber lengths of size 470mm, 630mm,
750mm and 920mm
Our typical thickness of the wood for wooden floors is 20mm. We
also produce 15mm to 25mm thickness.
Each sheet/piece of timber is also normally cut to a width of
100mm. This is not only practical for shipment purposes but also for ease of use to the
client when installing the wooden floor.
In a typical shipment of floor wood, each pile of timber usually consists of 2200mm.
B - Furniture and door wood
Again we offer a range of sizes for furniture and door wood. With
regards to thickness, our most common size ranges from 25mm to 100mm. It is not common to
see timber (for daily use) in a thickness more than 100mm.
We size the width of our furniture wood between 150mm and 400mm.
Again this is the standard size that we make for our clients.
As all measurements, the length is of course entirely the
clients own request. Our usual size of this type of wood ranges from 2000mm to
5000mm
Please note that the above sizes are those that are most common to
our current clients. We can of course make the timber to the exact size requirements that
our clients require.
