Pigskin
Versatility at an affordable price Pigskin has enjoyed a huge revival in recent years confirming the vast demand for this economical leather. This surge in demand is mainly due to the numerous new articles that can be made from pigskins aside for the conventional suede. Pigskins have a distinctive grain structure that occurs when the thick hairs penetrate through the grain layer leaving holes in it of a particular pattern. If the skins are tanned on the grain (top) side, the end result is a finish that is similar to the finish produced on lambskins. This type of finish is often used for garments, linings and trimmings. If the skins are tanned on the flesh (bottom) side, this then results in common pig suede, more suited to lightweight garments. The natural arrangement of the pigskin fibers enables the production of elegant patterns and silky soft naps. This affordable and practical leather offers unrivaled value as well as enduring mode. |
